Welcome to 2012. Here's to a great new year! The scene above with the rust colours of fall is one from the great photoart collection from Scott Cameron Photography. As winter progresses we will be adding a few scenes here on MuskokaHolidays.com, some of the snowy beauty in Muskoka and others to remind you of the open water and things to come this summer. You can see more landscape, nature and wildlife photos with a visit to CandidCameron.com and enjoy the vibrance High Dynamic Range and Detail adds to the WOW factor of this printed-to-canvas fine art photography.
Some come to play, others come to relax and many arrive to be pampered at a favorite spa. Golf courses designed by some of the worlds best (Mark O'Meara, Nick Faldo, Thomas McBroom) are tucked into the landscape ready to challenge. The highly regarded Taboo is a Ron Garl designed layout. Muskoka was designed by nature and all that has been inserted has respected the ambience it was welcomed to.
In the summertime life on the water is the main attraction and this was indeed the initial season of attraction. For many who live on the islands in Lake Muskoka, Joseph or Rosseau the holiday begins by parking the car, hopping in the boat and feeling the clear air as they head out to their dock, cottage and tranquility.
Boat sales and boat service is well addressed in Muskoka with numerous dry land and on-water marina locations well located because nobody wants down time when they are having holiday time. For those staying at resorts boat rentals are available so you won't miss a minute of the action but plan ahead so you won't be left on shore.
When in Muskoka plan a cruise on the Segwun or Winnonah II. In earlier times these vessels delivered mail, supplies and people to points around the lakes.
Today these stately vessels glide along the shorelines where passengers get a glimpse of the rugged terrain as well as boat houses and retreats that range upward to include many that feature in the magazines of the lifestyles many only dream of. Muskoka cottager's have long had a habit of taking visitors for boat rides to see the fabulous boathouses connected with some of the properties.
Deerhurst Resort will become the centre of focus when the G8 Summit is held in Canada at Huntsville in Parry Sound/Muskoka. Preparations are well underway and you will be kept up to date here on MuskokaHolidays.com.
We have designed a highly recognizable G8 button to make it easy for you to get to the source of the G8 information, including links to stories and updates.
A bog in Algonquin Park is both rugged and beautiful. Algonquin is a favorite destination of those wanting to experience a great canoe, hiking and camping holiday. Lakes and rivers surrounded by dense pines and leafy forest vegetation deliver a wilderness experience you will talk about for years to come and want to return as often as you can arrange it.
Bring your camera. We can't guarantee that a Barred Owl will come and sit on the edge of your deck and pose to let you snap his/her portrait while watching for lunch, but we certainly can guarantee that Muskoka is the location to see deer, moose, maybe a bear, a variety of feathered residents, wolves and more.
One of the very neat experiences is to join a "wolf howl" in Algonquin Park. You can find out about these events when you visit the Park entrance buildings or the Algonquin Visitors Centre to pick up your Park Permit (daily, weekly or seasonal). A number of publications are available that include maps to show where and what highlights are located including hiking trails, picnic areas and more.
A trip to Muskoka is worth at least a one day visit to Algonquin Park. For many Algonquin Park is a destination in itself to experience the wildlife and gorgeous back-country on a canoe or hiking holiday.
